I’ve been driving Toyotas for much of my life. My family has only owned Toyota/Lexis cars in the last 10 years. But Toyota is not making it easy on us.
Years years after Toyota learned its floor mats were getting the gas pedal trapped and causing car accidents, the company recalled its first cars to fix the problem. Now, it has identified two more models at risk for getting the accelerator trapped: the 2010 Lexus RX 350 and RX 450H SUVs. Why now? U.S. safety regulators, who asked Toyota to recall the vehicles, may investigate whether the company alerted consumers to the problem in a timely fashion. Do I get a vote? Oh, good. The answer is that Toyota dragged their feet on this and I’m sure people were hurt and killed as a result.
Toyota recalled more than 14 million vehicles to fix problems including sticky gas pedals and floor mats, leaving everyone, including loyalist like me, looking at Toyota in a very different way.
