In a newspaper with the hefty title of “New Oral Anticoagulants in Atrial Fibrillation and Acute Coronary Syndromes: ESC Working Group on Thrombosis-Task Force on Anticoagulants in Heart Disease Position Paper,” researchers are pointing to more concerns with Pradaxa that will fuel future Pradaxa injury and wrongful death lawsuits: reports of a high rate of dyspepsia and gastrointestinal bleeding, which increases the risk of myocardial infarction.
Pradaxa has been reported to cause serious and fatal injuries such as brain hemorrhaging, heart attacks and other cardiac injuries, and GI, kidney and internal bleeding. This is a “who’s who” list of what can cause people to die prematurely.
The first of the Pradaxa wrongful death lawsuits have been filed. These are not class action lawsuits—right now they are individual lawsuits filed by individual victims and their families. Most lawyers expect that these cases will be grouped together in a Pradaxa class-action like lawsuit, known as multidistrict litigation (MDL). The goal will be to streamline discovery and perhaps create opportunities for early Pradaxa settlements.
