The FDA has announced the immediate recall of certain OxyElite Pro dietary supplement products.
The recall was announced after the FDA said it is linked to liver illnesses and that there is a reasonable probability that the products are adulterated. How? We just don’t know yet. USPlabs, LLC, manufacturer of the OxyElite Pro products, was notified by the FDA that if they did not initiate a voluntary recall, the FDA could order the company to immediately stop distributing the dietary supplements. So the FDA gave them a choice to do the right thing or they would do it for them. Did they have to push them? Again, we don’t know yet. But OxyElite had another recall in 2012 so I doubt this is the world’s best product.
According to the FDA, there is indication of a link between the use of the products referenced below, and a number of liver illnesses reported in Hawaii, as well as liver damage in a number of other states. In a review of 46 medical records, 27 patients (58%) reported having taken OxyElite Pro prior to becoming ill. 17 of those 27 patients reported that OxyElite Pro was the only dietary supplement that they were taken.

In addition to the recalled products, the FDA continues to advise consumers not to use any dietary supplements labeled OxyElite Pro or VERSA-1.
According to the FDA, As of Oct. 31, a total of 56 cases have been identified nationwide. Among these cases, 22 people have been hospitalized, two people have received liver transplants, and one person has died. Others are said to be awaiting a liver transplant.
What Does This All Mean?
There are not going to be a million of these cases because this was not a huge selling product. Will the injuries be limited to Hawaii? Maybe. We just don’t know what we are dealing with yet.
