Albertsons/Supervalu is recalling several ground beef products sold in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington because of a possible E. Coli contamination problem.
The raw ground beef subject to this recall was sold at its full service counters at the customer’s request or sold in packaged form with an Albertsons’ store label between September 3rd and September 21st of this year. If you have any of this product, you should return it to the store. They are offering to replace the food but I think most everyone will pass on that. Anyway, the recall includes these packaged products with the Albertsons store label:
1 lb. fresh ground Beef Patties with the UPC: 7-52907-60030 and ‘‘USE BY’’ date of 9/11/12
1 lb. fresh ground beef chub with the UPC: 7-52907-18271 and a ‘‘USE BY’’ date of 9/18/12 or 9/21/12
3 lb. fresh ground beef chub with the UPC: 7-52907-18251 and a ‘‘USE BY’’ date of 9/18/12 or 9/21/12
It really is amazing how in 2012 food poisoning is still pandemic. I tried to look for statistics to find the trends in food poisoning but ran into a brick wall. What really amazed me – if it is true – is that E. coli is not one of the top 5 culprits. They are: Campylobacter, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Toxoplasma gondii, and norovirus.
