Lettuce Recall in Maryland and Other States

Fear of E. coli in romaine lettuce has led to a recall in 19 states.

Tanimura & Antle will recall a single lot of Field Fresh Wrapped Single Head Romaine that was available at retail stores starting August 2.

Gee, just a single lot in this recall? We can all relax, right? Not so much. This lot included 2,095 cases of lettuce that were potentially affected. Most of the 2,095 cases were shipped to Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington. I can’t tell you where the rest of the cases went. No one seems to be saying. Maybe they did not pass inspection for other reasons? No clue.

The lettuce is packed in a plastic bag with the UPC number 0-27918-20314-9, and it may have a “best by” date of August 19. Keep your eyes out for this lettuce.
