From the Chicago Tribune:
Four additional reports of fires involving LG Electronics’ portable dehumidifiers have prompted LG Electronics Tianjin Appliance Co. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to re-announce a previous recall of 98,000 LG dehumidifiers.
“The power connector for the dehumidifier’s compressor can short circuit, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers,” according to an Aug. 10 CPSC press release.
When LG Electronics and the CPSC first announced the recall in Dec. 2009, LG had received 11 reports of fires involving the dehumidifiers. No injuries have ever been reported to either entity in association with the dehumidifiers.
