Penny’s Salsa has issued a recall for some of there hummus – a personal favorite of mine – with use by dates of July 13 through August 25. The sales were limited to QFC stores in Portland and Western Washington.
What is the problem? The products may contain a deadly bacterium called Listeria Monocytogenes which can include fever, muscle aches and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms… and a lot worse.
According to the CDC, anyone with fatigue and aches within two months of eating contaminated food should get medical attention as (in some cases) the bacterium can lead to death.
This type of food poisoning primarily affects pregnant women, newborns and those with weak immune systems.
The recalled hummus flavors are:
- Pico de Gallo
- Roasted red pepper
Although, let’s get serious, is anyone eating any flavor of this hummus after reading this? When I read these things, I won’t eat anything resembling the product – made my anyone – for weeks.
