GM Recalls 1,000 Vans

January 30, 2013, by Ronald V. Miller, Jr.

General Motors is recalling approximately 1,000 full size vans due to a problem with the ignition locking system.

Affected by this recall are certain 2013 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans. Express vans built from November 1st through December 21, 2012, and GMC Savana vehicles built from November 14th through November 20, 2012 have an issue with their ignition lock system could lead to the vehicles rolling away while unattended. It is possible to remove the ignition key from its slot while the engine is running, or while the transmission is not in the “park” position. A standard safety feature throughout the U.S. auto industry, the interlocking mechanism between the ignition and transmission is supposed to keep the key from being removed unless the vehicle is in park and the engine is off.

GM has announced that they will notify owners of the recall and replace the ignition lock cylinder and keys free of charge.
