Maryland Department of the Environment fined eight landlords nearly $240,000 total for violating lead paint laws, including a $65,000 fine to one landlord for failing to comply with lead paint standards.
Maryland law requires landlords to hire inspectors to check on whether their rental properties have lead dust or peeling paint. Those that do not do so – mostly Baltimore landlords – risk a lead paint lawsuit.
